Carrots May Cut Women’s Breast Cancer Risk by 43%: Just three servings of carrots per week is all it takes to lower women’s risk of breast cancer by 43% according to this study out of China—and that benefit is for women with a family history of breast cancer! In fact, carrot was the single most powerful vegetable in this study for protection against lung cancer. And that’s not the only study to confirm the health benefits of this super-vegetable for women. Another study out of the USA showed that women eating spinach or carrots at least twice weekly had 43% less breast cancer compared to non-consumers. And yet another study showed that women in China reduced their risk of breast cancer by 42% if they ate at least 50 grams daily of tomatoes or carrots.
The fact that this risk reduction is so consistent among these studies is extremely rare, and helps confirm carrots' amazing health benefits. Why are they so powerful? Besides containing ample beta-carotene, carrots are by far the single best dietary source of alpha-carotene (besides pumpkin & winter squash) as well as the polyacetylene falcarindol—both of which are powerful anti-cancer compounds. Carrots are thus an important part of a healthy diet rich in fruit and vegetables—and remember they aren’t just for women! One carrot daily has been shown to reduce men’s prostate cancer risk by 50% in other studies.
